FAQ

Do I need a limited company accountant?

You are not legally required to use an accountant, but most limited company directors benefit from professional support. A limited company has annual filing obligations with Companies House and HMRC, including statutory accounts, corporation tax, payroll, VAT where applicable, and director/shareholder tax considerations. An accountant can help ensure your filings are accurate, deadlines are met, and tax planning opportunities are considered properly.

When are company accounts due?

For most private limited companies, annual accounts are due at Companies House 9 months after the company’s financial year end. For a company’s first accounts, the deadline is usually 21 months after incorporation. The corporation tax payment deadline is usually 9 months and 1 day after the accounting period ends, while the Company Tax Return is due 12 months after the accounting period ends.

Do you also file the corporation tax return?

Yes. As part of our limited company accounts service, we can prepare and file the company’s corporation tax return with HMRC, together with the supporting tax computation. We can also advise you of the corporation tax payable and the relevant payment deadline.

Can you help with bookkeeping?

Yes. We can help with bookkeeping either as a standalone service or as part of a wider accounting package. This can include keeping your records up to date, reconciling bank transactions, reviewing expenses, preparing VAT returns where applicable, and ensuring your accounts are ready for year-end preparation.

Can you deal with QuickBooks or Xero?

Yes. We work with cloud accounting software including QuickBooks and Xero. We can help with setup, bookkeeping, bank feeds, transaction coding, VAT return preparation, management reports, and year-end accounts. We can also review your existing records if you already use accounting software.

Do you work with clients outside your local area?

Yes. We provide accountancy and tax services to clients across the UK. Most work can be handled remotely using cloud accounting software, secure document sharing, email, phone and video calls, so you do not need to be based locally to work with us.
